Over the past decade, tourism industry in Da Nang has progressed significantly. 2010 marked the sector’s success with increases in the number of visitors and total income. Nearly 2 million visitors came to Da Nang, including 400 thousand foreigners, up 33% against 2009. Income stood at 65 million USD, 40% higher than the previous year. Da Nang has become famed for the international firework display festival, sea festival, Ba Na scenic area and marble mountains. Tran Kim Tho, Business Manager at Da Nang’s Tourane hotel told VOV:“Da Nang tourism has been developing rapidly in recent years. Investments have been poured into infrastructure and sites. Resorts and hotels service along the beach front have been developed to meet the increasing demands of tourists.”

The success of brand name often depends on quality and advertisement. Da Nang has worked hard to promote its tourism products through broadcast media, worldwide tourism fairs and invitations extended to film makers. The municipal authorities have encouraged foreign investors to do business in this industry. A number of new tourist attractions have been introduced such as an excursion to Son Tra islands, scuba diving, fishing with farmers, tour of southern Hai Van pass, international fireworks display festival and the not to be missed ride on Ba Na cable car, the highest and longest cable care system in the world. Nguyen Duc Vu, manager of Son Tra island and Da Nang beaches, says: “The highlight of this year’s sea activity is coral reef scuba diving. Hopefully, this new attraction will bring more tourists to our city.”

However,  Da Nang still has a lot of work to go to advance its tourism sector as stated by Huynh Minh Nhon, Deputy Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism: There is no tourism port in Da Nang to welcome travelers arriving by waterway. Projects at good locations are moving slowly. We still lack night services and shopping areas other than Han and Con markets and BigC supermarket.”

Da Nang has been renewing efforts to create its name as a much sought after tourist destination for domestic and international visitors.
