The resolution spells out specific measures for party rectification from the central to the grassroots level in order to consolidate unity within the party. Addressing the 7th Plenum of the 11th Party Central Committee in May, Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong said: “Party committees and members have been aware of the importance of party building and rectification in the new phase of development. The implementation of the resolution helped to boost last year’s socio-economic development, stabilize the macro economy, control inflation, and ensure social security.”

The resolution has helped to prevent slackening of political ideology and morality in party members and to address a number of shortcomings in personnel procedures and party operating principles. Through criticism and self-criticism, the Party Politburo, Secretariat, committees, and members have become sufficiently aware of their own advantages and disadvantages to work out timely solutions. Ksor Phuoc is a member of the Party Central Committee and Head of the National Assembly’s Ethnic Council: “The party is determined to face its disadvantages and fix its shortcomings. This requires increased democracy and criticism and self-criticism. The party should stay close to the people and listen to their opinions in order to consolidate itself.”

Plans for the years to come will focus on heightening the sense of responsibility of key officials and managers while improving personnel planning and recruitment. Phan Dien is a former member of the Party Politburo: “We should reevaluate institutions concerned with personnel recruitment, promotion, management, and supervision to make the most of competent officials and minimize opportunists. There should be appropriate institutions to deal with those who don’t deserve to be in the Party and State leadership.”

Building a united, transparent and strong party is of vital importance to the country’s revolution and regime. There are many problems and this political drive will require perseverance and more resolute implementation to meet people’s aspirations in the cause of national construction and defense.
