 Over the past 69 years, the Emmy award, or simply Emmy, has recognized excellence in the television industry. It corresponds to the Oscar for films, the Tony for theatre, and the Grammy for music.

At this 69th Emmy Awards “The Handmaid’s Tale” was honored with a total of 8 awards, including outstanding drama series.

The series was written by Bruce Miller based on Canadian writer Margaret Atwood’s 1985 novel. Lead actress Elisabeth Moss won the Emmy for her role as Offred. Moss excellently played the role of a maid forced to be a sex slave living in fear.

The satirical sketch show “Saturday Night Live” won the Emmy for best variety sketch series for its multiple jabs at US President Donald Trump.

 Alec Baldwin won the comedy supporting actor Emmy for his withering impersonation of Trump, while Kate McKinnon was a winner for her spoofs of Hillary Clinton. The series won a total of 9 awards this year.

"Big Little Lies", starring Reese Witherspoon and Nicole Kidman, beat “Feud: Bette and Joan” to win the Emmy for Outstanding Limited Series. Nicole Kidman won the Emmy for Best Actress in a Limited Series or TV movie for her work as an abused wife in HBO’s “Big Little Lies”.

“The Voice” won the Emmy for Best Reality Competition Program, beating "The Amazing Race", "America Ninja Warrior", and other nominees.  

Sterling K. Brown won the Emmy for Lead Actor in a Drama Series for "This Is Us". It's been 19 years since an African American won in this category.

Winning the award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series for the sixth time in a row for “Veep”, Julia Louis-Dreyfus broke Candice Bergen's record for the most Emmys for a single role, and tied Cloris Leachman's record of eight Emmy wins by a single performer - Louis-Dreyfus won once for “Seinfeld”, and once for “The New Adventures of Old Christine”.
