(VOVworld) – Two years after launching the program “One Commune One Product” (OCOP), Quang Ninh province has obtained significant results. OCOP has played an important part in building new rural areas, boosting people’s incomes, and promoting local socio-economic development.

Quang Ninh approved the OCOP program in 2013 with the goals of promoting the production of its staple products and boosting people’s income. 20 organizations have gotten involved in the program to provide consultancy for production and product development. 52 new economic organizations were established. Quang Ninh has 200 products with qualified quality, package, and label. The province has organized annual OCOP trade fairs which have attracted both local residents and people from other provinces.
Ha Hai Duong, Chairman of Dong Trieu township, says: “To continue implementing the OCOP program, it’s necessary to have incentive mechanisms to attract more organizations, households, and individuals to OCOP production. More staff should be trained for the OCOP program and resources from the new rural development program should be mobilized for production development projects. Technology should be upgraded and the administration, scientists, businesses, and farmers should increase collaboration.”
From 2017 to 2020 Quang Ninh province aims to make OCOP a primary economic development program to promote its advantages in fishery, forestry, and pharmaceutical products. Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Nguyen Xuan Cuong said: “Quang Ninh province should invite businesses, cooperatives, and farmers to participate in the OCOP program. The province should expand the production of spearhead products.”
The OCOP is an important beginning for Quang Ninh’s rural development task. Quang Ninh’s successful models should be replicated to other localities to increase the economic value of Vietnamese agricultural products and Vietnamese trademarks.
