Provinces with industrial parks have resumed full-scale production. Trade and services have also resumed and modes of transportation are now busy again.
Positive signs
Airports and gateways to cities and provinces are crowded with people traveling to tourist sites. Tan Son Nhat airport in Ho Chi Minh City is handling a growing number of passengers. Last Sunday 70,000 peopled arrived and 32,000 people departed, the most passengers the airport has handled in recent years.
Vietnam Airlines operated over 1,000 flights and 140,000 passengers to and from Da Nang, Hue, Binh Dinh, and Quang Binh province between January 30th and February 5th.
Le Chi Quan, Deputy Director of Vietnam Airlines in the central region, said domestic flights have resumed to about 70% of their volume before the pandemic.
“Tan Son Nhat, Noi Bai, and Da Nang airport are getting crowded. That’s very exciting. It’s a sign of returning prosperity for the aviation industry and related sectors,” Quan said.
Business and production are also seeing hopeful signs. In January the number of newly-registered businesses increased 29% and and those resuming operation increased 194%.
Hundreds of FDI businesses in Binh Duong province have resumed full-capacity production following the Lunar New Year holiday. Da Nang city reports that about 90% of businesses in industrial parks are operating normally.
The labor market has recovered well since last December. The Ministry of Labor, Invalids, and Social Affairs says 95% of workers in industrial and processing zones have returned to work.
Taking action
This recovery progress is being led by the National program on Socio-economic Recovery and Development, Resolution No.1 on major tasks and solutions to carry out the Socio-economic Development Plan and State Budget Estimate for 2022, and Resolution No.2 on continuing to implement major tasks and solutions to improve the business environment and national competitiveness in 2022 and beyond.
These policies have created new momentum for ministries and sectors and gained support from the people and the business community for fulfilling this year’s socio-economic plan.
Nguyen Minh Thao, head of the Department of Business Environment and Competitiveness Research of the Central Institute for Economic Management, said adjustments to the COVID-19 prevention and control strategy and monetary and financial policies have helped businesses recover quickly after the social distancing period. Administrative reforms and simplified procedures have saved businesses time and maximized their capacity.
These positive socio-economic signs support the hope that Vietnam can stay at the forefront of the global recovery.
