National Assembly Secretary General Nguyen Hanh Phuc said the hearings proceeded in a dynamic, democratic, straightforward, responsible, and constructive manner.

She even interrupted the ministers, asking them to focus on the points,” said deputy Nhuong.

Deputies’ oversight role

Ngo Thanh Danh, a deputy for Dak Nong province, said deputies asked good questions and elicited satisfactory answers. “The Q&A was frank and constructive. The deputies, who represent the people, were serious with their questions. They kept grilling the Ministers about matters of voters’ interests.”

During the 3-day Q&A session, the Ministers candidly admitted responsibility for shortcomings and promised to correct mistakes.

Deputy Nguyen Ngoc Phuong of Quang Ngai province said the National Assembly deputies, who elected the Ministers, are entitled to demand that the Ministers address people’s concerns. He added “The National Assembly Standing Committee was well prepared for what to be questioned. The issues raised should be what the voters want to hear from the Ministers.”
