Scientists urged to continue contributing to national development

Prime Minister Phuc said the Vietnamese government promotes “disciplines, righteousness, action, creativity, breakthroughs, and efficiency” to foster economic growth and innovation. He said it’s important to inspire Vietnamese people’s intellectuality and creativity for rapid, sustainable national development. He called on scientists inside and outside Vietnam to help realize Vietnam’s desire to become a high-income country: "We’re talking about aspiration. I want to make clear that it’s our aspiration to make the country stronger by seizing opportunities, taking advantage of national strengths, and rallying the participation of the whole Party and Vietnamese people at home and abroad, particularly the passionate intellectuals, scientists, and experts. Vietnam intends to become a high-income country by 2045.”

The Prime Minister asked for experts’ contributions to adapting to climate change; ensuring energy safety and security; promoting healthcare, agriculture, and social science; and improving management and legislation to better protect human rights and citizen rights under the 2013 Constitution.

Sound institutions promote science and technology

At the meeting, the scientists praised the Vietnamese Party and State’s support for scientists and the Prime Minister’s frequent meetings with intellectuals. Prime Minister Phuc acknowledged that laws and policies to facilitate science development must be improved: “I agree with the idea that if one of the 300 professors and doctors representing 4 million Vietnamese intellectuals at home and abroad make a certain contribution, we will receive wisdom and expertise in a wide range of areas. I will dedicate more time to listening to and holding dialogues with scientists on issues related to institutions and policy-making.”

The PM highlighted the strong development of the intellectual and scientist community as a great resource to boost Vietnam’s growth and global status.
