Over the past 10 years, since the 11^th Party Congress, many heavy tasks were laid before the 12^th National Party Congress. To fulfill these tasks, the entire Party, army and people were required to take resolute measures and promote positivity, especially in fighting corruption, negativity, and wastefulness. Thanks to resolute, scientific, strong, and in-depth leadership, the fight against corruption has gained major results, receiving positive applause from Party members and the public at home and overseas.

Party General Secretary and President Nguyen Phu Trong, who is also Head of the Central Steering Committee for Anti-Corruption, said, 'Corruption has been gradually contained and prevented, contributing to ensuring national politics and socio-economic development, strengthening trust in the Party and State among Party officials and members and the public. In a recent survey conducted by the Party Central Committee’s Commission for Communications and Education, 95% of respondents expressed confidence in the Party leadership in fighting corruption and the distortions of hostile forces.'

Party building has always been a key task of the Party during the 12^th and previous tenures. The Party Central Committee issued 4 resolutions and 1 regulation concerning Party building. The Party Politburo and the Party Secretariat have also issued 130 documents on Party building and rectification. Resolutions of the 12^th Party Congress have been resolutely realized through specific activities. The integration of Party guidelines and State policies has created strength for the whole political system.

Associate Professor Doctor Duong Trung Y, Deputy Director of the Ho Chi Minh National Administration of Politics, said, 'At the 12^th tenure of the Party, we obtained several major achievements in various fields, particularly in Party building and rectification. At this tenure, the Party Central Committee, the Party Politburo, and the Party Secretariat have issued many resolutions and directives on Party building, like the Resolution of the 4^th Plenum on Party building and rectification, the Politburo Directive on following President Ho Chi Minh’s moral example, and Resolution 18 on making the political apparatus more effective.'

Since the beginning of its tenure, the new government has specified Party resolutions in a resolute action program. In 2016, when the government began its new tenure, Vietnam’s key economic sectors were falling below the level of the previous year. In particular, major sectors like agriculture, fisheries, and forestry fell to the bottom due to declining export markets, saline intrusion, and severe drought.

To cope with the situation, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc picked the most difficult scenario among the three proposed, calling for strong determination to overcome difficulties and challenges and move forward to obtain set targets. Despite falling behind the set target in 2016, Vietnam’s GDP grew at miracle levels in 2017, 2018, and 2019, receiving international praise. In 2019, Vietnam’s GDP grew 7%, higher than the plan, giving Vietnam one of the world’s highest growth rates. 2020 was a year that tested Vietnam’s wisdom, strength, and will in dealing with epidemics, natural disasters, floods, and torrential rains. With a strong will, Vietnam obtained significant results in realizing the dual task of boosting economic growth and preventing the disease. Vietnam’s GDP of 2.91% received international applause.

Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc said, 'When many developing countries are suffering from serious financial burdens, Vietnam has accumulated resources thanks to recent positive growth. This shows that Vietnam does not depend much on the world economy but has its internal strength.'

Vietnam’s achievements in the last 5 years demonstrated that Party resolutions can only be successful with a focus on Party building. In Party building, it’s important to focus on Party building and rectification, while in Party building and rectification, it’s important to focus on personnel work and capacity building. Personnel work is the decisive factor for successful implementation of Party guidelines and resolution.

The achievements of the 12^th tenure of the Party created an important prerequisite for Vietnam to continue its renewal process and grow further in the coming years, proving that the Party’s guideline on renovation is correct and creative and that Vietnam’s path to socialism is relevant to Vietnam’s reality and the development trend of history.
