The Hanoi Bus Station Company estimates that travel demand during Tet will increase about 200%. Travel demand may rise 300% during the 3 days before Tet (January 17-20) when people return home and during a second peak from January 26-29 when people come back to Hanoi.

Tran Hoang, Head of Technology and Investment Planning for the Hanoi Bus Station Company, said: “We have a customized plan for each station. The stations will work with functional agencies to prepare for the peak times to ensure the convenience of passengers.”

The Giap Bat, Gia Lam, and My Dinh Bus stations of the Hanoi Bus Station Company will run 2,500 bus trips to serve about 18,000 passengers a day.

Nguyen Hoang Tung, Director of the Giap Bat station, said: “We have signed contracts with transportation companies to abide by passenger transportation rules, such as not to increase ticket prices and to carry the allowable number of passengers on each trip. If we receive complaints from passengers, we will strictly handle them.”

Hanoi has required departments and localities to ensure public security and order and traffic safety. Mobile inter-sectoral teams will patrol around the clock to ensure traffic order and safety at key high-risk areas. Ensuring convenient transportation and traffic safety will help people celebrate a happy Lunar New Year.
