(VOVWORLD) - The Hanoi Youth Union launched the second National Green Sunday campaign on Sunday, incorporating activities aimed at reducing plastic waste. The event, part of activities to mark World Environment Day (June 5), is expected to encourage Hanoi’s young people to build a green, civilized, and modern capital.

At the launch ceremony, the municipal Youth Union's Standing Committee introduced three volunteer teams. The first team “Green Volunteers – Clean from Alley to Street”, consisting of local union members and members of the Women’s Union and Veterans Association, is responsible for environmental sanitation in residential areas, traditional markets, and designated routes.

The second team, called “Youth in Action – Say No to Plastic Waste” comprises young environmental advocates who help raise public awareness about the harmful effects of plastic waste and promote sustainable consumption habits.

The third team, “Green Volunteer Summer”, includes students and union members engaged in summer volunteer efforts such as building new rural areas, planting trees, organizing summer activities for children, and implementing meaningful youth-led community projects.

Simultaneously, all 30 districts and towns, along with youth unions at schools across Hanoi, organized their own activities in response to the campaign, drawing more than 10,000 youth union members.

The young volunteers share their excitement:

“As youth union members, we love taking part in these activities. They not only make our hometown greener, cleaner, and more beautiful, but also improve our own quality of life.”

“The program has raised youth members’ sense of responsibility and deepened their understanding of the importance of environmental sanitation and preserving the living environment. It showcases the pioneering and responsible spirit of the younger generation.”

“This movement enhances public awareness and spreads a strong message to the wider community about the importance of environmental protection.”

Through practical and impactful initiatives, the second National Green Sunday campaign underscores the youth’s vanguard role in environmental protection and sustainable urban development.
