(VOVWORLD) - Vietnam's export turnover of agricultural, forestry, and fishery products in the first quarter increased nearly 20% over the same period last year with a total value estimated at nearly 7.3 billion USD. The result is attributed to quality improvement and investment in technology application to meet the high standards of many markets with which Vietnam has signed free trade agreements. It has created conditions for Vietnamese agricultural products to be exported to markets with high added value.

The Ministry of Industry and Trade and the Ministry of Transport have helped businesses change delivery methods for agricultural products that have experienced major traffic jams at road border gates. Exports to China have been diverted to sea and railway routes.

Hoang Minh Chien, Deputy Director of the Department for Trade Promotion of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, said: “The Ministry of Industry and Trade assigned the Department for Trade Promotion to build a map of Vietnamese agricultural products. The map is expected to be an official information channel to introduce our potential customers to local agricultural specialties. They can directly contact localities, cooperatives, and farmer households who produce the products.”

The Ministry of Industry and Trade has asked all overseas Trade Offices to help expand export markets for Vietnamese agricultural products. Besides traditional markets, they have sought opportunities in the Latin America, the Middle East, and Northeast Asia markets.

Deputy Minister Do Thang Hai said: “One of the very effective measures is using digital technology to promote e-commerce and online sale. We have contracted with many giants such as Amazon Global Selling to sell Vietnamese products. During the pandemic we had to organize online trade promotion and export events, we will continue to speed up e-commerce in the future.”

The Ministry of Industry and Trade inaugurated the Vietnam National Trade Repository to realize its commitments to ASEAN to enhance policy transparency, facilitate regional trade, and boost businesses’ access to regional countries’ trade policies.

It also serves as a search tool for State agencies to grasp the country’s commitments in ASEAN and the FTAs between the bloc and partners, thereby assisting with policy making. The portal provides updated trade information in both Vietnamese and English on trade activities, including the export of agricultural products.
