The National Steering Committee for COVID-19 Prevention and Control has agreed to reduce the number of flights from abroad. Vietnamese nationals returning home and experts coming to work in Vietnam will be quarantined and closely watched after the quarantine time.

Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam, Head of the National Steering Committee, said: “All repatriation flights for Vietnamese nationals will be quarantined and closely managed. Flights from countries and territories affected with the new variant of the SARS-CoV-2 virus will entail a longer quarantine time. In fact some people have tested positive for COVID-19 after 14 days.”

With illegal entries by sea increasing, the National Steering Committee has urged border guards and sea police to strengthen patrols. Local authorities are asking people to report relatives or neighbors arriving from abroad so they can be quarantined in compliance with regulations. Fishermen are urged to watch for maritime hitchhikers, follow preventive measures on their ships, and report violations to border guards or other authorities.

Vietnam’s long-term pandemic preventive measures include wearing face masks, using sanitizer, keeping social distancing, avoiding get-togethers, and making medical declarations. Although there are now COVID-19 vaccines, it will take months to vaccinate the public. In the meantime Vietnam will strengthen COVID-19 preventive measures.
