Vietnam’s government, ministries, sectors, and localities have quickly mapped out new scenarios for pandemic containment and economic recovery, including measures to help businesses restore their operation.

With exerted efforts, Vietnam is containing the pandemic in major hot spots – Ho Chi Minh City, Binh Duong, Dong Nai, and Long An province. Now it’s time to adjust its pandemic control strategy to restore and boost the economy.

The government accompanies businesses

Now that Vietnam is witnessing positive signs in pandemic response, it needs pandemic control policies more geared to economic recovery and policies that support safe business and safe production.

At an online dialogue between the government and the business community last week, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh said that, with business now being the main focus, the government has decentralized decision-making a bit in order to allow administrations to collaborate more closely with businesses.

“Ministries, sectors, and localities have worked out plans to resolve problems for businesses. Now we need to gather opinions from businesses to create prompt policies that will receive their support. It’s important to strengthen administrative reform based on contributions from the public.”

The government has directed specialized agencies to develop temporary guidelines for safe, flexible, effective containment of COVID-19. Localities have worked out their own pandemic control strategies.

Vice Chairman of the Quang Ninh provincial People’s Committee Cao Tuong Huy said: “We have specific solutions. We will push ahead with the implementation of key projects, including the Ha Long Xanh project, the Dong Trieu Golf Court project, and the Van Ninh seaport project, in October. Our target is to disburse over 80% of the funds for these projects by September 30.”

Stable economy aids national development

During the online dialogue, businesses praised the government’s policies. Prime Minister Chinh had separate meetings with businesses inside and outside Vietnam to address their problems.

Mr. Chinh said: “We truly want the business community to be at the center of pandemic prevention, economic development, labor productivity improvement, and digital transformation. We want the business community to work side by side with the government, increase public-private investment in strategic infrastructure, and contribute opinions to administrative reforms to improve human resources, and promote the pharmaceutical sector in order to effectively respond to any situation.”

The Prime Minister asked businesses to build economic recovery plans and restructure their organizations for the “new normal” period. The government and the National Assembly will work closely with businesses with the motto ‘true thinking, true speaking, true actions, true achievements, and true benefits for people and businesses.”

Vietnam has been fighting COVID-19 over the past two years. Now it’s time to unite to restore the economy.

As the Prime Minister has said: “The more difficult the situation is, the more we must unite and turn challenges into motivation to rise, assert ourselves, and develop our nation.”
