Emulation movement – motivation for socio-economic development

During the last 5 years, a patriotic emulation movement has been implemented nationwide with diverse activities serving political, social and economic tasks. Emulation movements have motivated socio-economic development and supported national defense, law, and order. The movement has have mobilized people’s potential and creativity and encouraged them to contribute to national development.

The “Whole country joins hands in new rural development” movement has spurred the National Target Program on New Rural Development in the 2010-2020 period to complete two years ahead of schedule. By October this year, more than 5,000 communes (60.3%) had been recognized as “new rural areas” and 162 districts (24.4%) had completed new rural development programs. Rural infrastructure has been significantly improved.

The “Whole country joins hands for the poor – leaving no one behind” movement has promoted solidarity in the community and made Vietnam one of the first countries to achieve the Millennium Development Goal on poverty reduction. Vietnam’s poverty rate fell sharply from 9.2% in 2016 to less than 3% in 2020.

The “Vietnamese businesses integrate and grow” movement has improved the business environment, reduced difficulties for businesses, mapped out programs and plans to support startups, promoted trade, and supported technological innovation. Despite COVID-19 and a severe economic recession, the number of new businesses in Vietnam has increased steadily since 2016. By October, Vietnam had nearly 800,000 new businesses, up more than 5.5% since last December.

National unity promoted

The 10th Patriotic Emulation Congress is as a venue for sharing effective business models, inspiring humaneness, and promoting the fine traditions of the Vietnamese people. This Congress will promote national unity and work to realize Party guidelines and State policies to launch emulations in all fields, encourage new rural development, help the poor, promote businesses’ integration and development, enhance office culture, and follow President Ho Chi Minh’s moral example.

Associate Professor Doctor Bui Dinh Phong of the Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics said: "Emulation must be democratic and practical and must bring into full play the role and wisdom of the people under the leadership of the Party. Without people and Party leadership, we can’t be successful."

Achievements of previous emulation movements and resolutions to be adopted at the 10th National Patriotic Emulation Congress will serve as a firm foundation for achieving Vietnam’s future goals.
