At a ceremony to launch the national movement of fighting plastic waste, he said shops, supermarkets, and traditional markets in urban areas must say no to single-use plastic by 2021,  and Vietnam must stop using disposable plastic by 2025. Mr. Phuc added:

“The government calls for enterprises’ joint efforts in fighting plastic waste, classifying, recycling and reusing plastic bags and products. Shops, supermarkets, tourism zones, and hotels are discouraged to use disposable nylon bags and products. Shoppers are encouraged to bring their own containers which are friendly to the environment. Every community, family, and citizen says no to plastic waste to contribute to a better life for the next generations.”

Prime Minister Phuc asked the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment and relating agencies to finalize regulations and policies to restrict single-use plastic and encourage alternative environment-friendly products.

Mr. Phuc and Hanoi people joined in a walk around Hoan Kiem lake and other activities to spread the idea of saying no to plastic waste.
