Mr. Minh told Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin that Vietnam has been improving its investment climate and encourages US investment and business activities.

Mr. Mnuchin agreed that economic, trade, and investment ties are the foundation of Vietnam-US relations and applauded Vietnam for sharing information and helping to resolve some important financial issues.

At a separate meeting, Mr. Minh and Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross agreed to continue fine-tuning current cooperation mechanisms like the Trade and Investment Framework Agreement, while negotiating new, stable, long-term frameworks.

Meeting Acting Defense Secretary Patrick Shanahan, Mr. Minh praised the US Department of Defense for supporting the dioxin remediation project launched at Bien Hoa airbase last month. The settlement of war legacy was also a highlight of talks between Mr. Minh and Eliot Engel, Chairman of the US House of Representatives’ Committee on Foreign Affairs. Engel said the US congress will continue budget allocations to settle war consequences in Vietnam, particularly the Bien Hoa airbase dioxin remediation project and aid to persons with disabilities because of the war.
