Tillerson said the US treasures the friendship and cooperation with Vietnam and underscored the importance of President Donald Trump’s visit to Vietnam, the first leg of his Southeast Asia tour. He said he believes that the visit will strengthen the Vietnam-US comprehensive partnership.

Both leaders agreed to increase coordination in ASEAN-led mechanisms, promote ASEAN’s central role, and support for the settlement of disputes in the East Sea through peaceful means and on the basis of international law, including the 1982 UN Convention on the Law of the Sea.
