The International Francophonie Organization’s principle is to honor French and the cultural diversity of French-speaking countries. Cultural and language exchanges have strengthened unity and created opportunities for political and economic cooperation.

Vietnam participates in the Organization of the Francophonie

Vietnam has cooperated with French organizations in offering bilingual classes. Both French and English are used at regional and global meetings and forums.

Eric Normand Thibeault, Director of the Asia-Pacific Office of the International Organization of the Francophonie, said Vietnam plays a major role in the Francophonie community and has invested a lot in promoting French. The Organization of the Francophonie aims to increase the use of French worldwide. “Vietnam is in a transitional period and has obtained many economic, political, and social achievements. Vietnam is facing challenges and competition in the region and the world which require people to improve their abilities. That’s why we want to improve the quality of education in Vietnam.” said Thibeault.

Vitality of French during globalization

French offers many opportunities to its speakers. Recognizing the importance of French and cultural diversity in the Francophonie community, Vietnam has been an active member of the organization.

Ouidad Tebbaa, Asia-Pacific Regional Director of the Francophonie University Agency, said: "We signed an agreement with the Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1993 and activities began in 1994. The Francophonie University Agency is a network of universities including those in Vietnam. Our strategic partnership with Vietnam has influenced other countries.”

International Francophonie Day 2019 in Vietnam has featured concerts, exhibitions, film screenings, seminars, exchanges, and a ceremony to honor individual contributions to the language and values of the French-speaking community.
